And another Brighton Bloggers/wifi observation. The only bloggers who had their laptops on display, had Macs. So, are the PC laptop owners too embarassed to bring their ugly bricks to the pub with them, or are they just too heavy (I know mine is!)?

So, tonight was the Brighton Bloggers first meetup. And, of course, Jeremy and Pete were blogging from the event (we were at Grand Central, complete with wifi provided by Loose Connection.)

On Saturday evening, we helped Simes celebrate his birthday by going along to one of the Music for a Summer Evening events at Kenwood House. We saw Bjorn Again, and I have to say they were great. I'd never been sure about the whole tribute band thing, but thought it might be fun, and it was. Daisy, now 18 months old, appears to be a bit of a rock chick, and seemed to particularly enjoy herself.

So, when I look out of the office window, this is the view I get. It's probably the best view I've ever had from my desk...

- That is so beautiful... my last office didn't even have a window!

Rescue mission
On Tuesday, just after I'd got home from work, Kirsty called to ask me if I could help her. Jeremy and Duncan had gone out on a bike ride, and had both fallen off their bikes and injured themselves. Kirsty came around and collected me in her truck, and we headed off to find them. Fortunately they'd gone on a ride I know well, and so with the help of the OS map we were able to find them. We dropped them off at the hospital, then unpacked the bikes before Kirsty headed back to sit in A&E for 4 or so hours. The diagnosis was that Duncan had fractured the tip of his finger, and Jeremy had to have 14 stiches in a nasty cut on his forearm.

Fame at last
About 6 weeks ago I did an interview on blogging for the Daily Mirror. It's made it into the Carol@Mirror section today.

Having recently watched the last (in the series?) of Adam & Joe Go Tokyo, I've come to the conclusion that there should be much more Adam and Joe on TV. Mind you, I said pretty much the same thing for Lee and Herring...
Sure, not everyone liked it compared to Adam and Joe's other shows, but it worked for me. I've had a couple of happy seconds playing Gets! (or Get's), and I'll be shopping for Plus-Tech Squeeze Box.

The Brighton Bloggers site has had a face lift. And it was really easy to implement too. Big thanks to Jeremy Keith.

I've just been looking around the internet searching for somewhere selling The West Wing Series 1 cheaper than Amazon, and I stumbled across Priceclash who do comparison shopping for DVDs, videos, CDs and games but who seem to cover far more stores than Kelkoo or any of the other alternatives. One to bookmark I think.

Well that is the first week of my new job over with, and I think I'm getting on ok. Starting working on some code yesterday, and seemed to find my way around that without too much difficulty. Now, if only the office had some air conditioning...

- air conditioned living
Air conditioning? In England? Unheard of! We have a fan in the office that is swirling old dog-breath around.
Youd think that 1st world countries which so willingly contribute to global warming, destroying 3rd world farmlands through droubt and or other resulting 'natural disasters' thereby eliminating any possible fair trade and competition combined with preferred shiny long-life GM food, would have the foresight to spend the profits on developing air-conditioned evironments as standard beforehand rather than later.

The Kensington Wifi Finder looks like an interesting gadget. It's a wifi finder so you can just look at the lights to see if there's a wifi connection where you are - without having to get the laptop out. Sounds cool... now I just need a laptop that is luggable...

On Friday we headed out to see Good bye, Lenin!. A fine and funny film, if you can handle subtitles or speak German, about the fiction a son has to create to keep the fall of the Berlin Wall from his mother. I hadn't been to the Duke of York's cinema for about 10 years, but I'll be back there: the screen felt small (we were at the back of the balcony), but any cinema that's licensed and sells cake is on to a winning combination in my books.
Afterwards we needed tasty, quick, cheap food in an uncrowded place. I thought we'd maybe get two out of those four on a Friday night, but we found them all in one go at Bombay Aloo. It's an all-you-can-eat Indian vegetarian buffet. Like other people we've walked past it a few times and wondered what it's like: it's definitely worth trying. I'd eat there again without a second thought.

So yesterday I left Northern Atlas. Jeremy and I went in, collected the remainder of our belongings and then went, with Duncan, to Woodies Diner for a lovely, lardy lunch.
In the evening Richard and I met up with Jeremy and Kirsty and we headed down to Santa Fe for some 2 for 1 happy hour cocktails to start us off. The guys sitting next to us were obviously out on a mission to get drunk as fast as possible, and were drinking some weird concoctions (sambuca, creme de menthe, baileys with a shot of tequilla on the side). We got chatting to them, and all of a sudden they were going to buy us tequilla as well. We all turned it down, well, apart from Jeremy that is... who had a shot with them, and then of course had to return the favour and have another shot - this time of Bacardi 151. We made a quick getaway, whilst he could still stand, and had dinner at the Boardwalk before finishing the evening playing arcade games on the pier.
