Well its not quite a month since I blogged with relief that Peter Taylor wasn’t joining Charlton, unfortunately he isn’t going to stay at Hull either and is joining Cystal Palace instead :-( . The only positive is that Hull gets compensation for him going. Mick McCarthy, Joe Royle, Dave Penney, Martin Allen, Steve Tilson and Phil Parkinson are the names currently being lined up with the job.

So, Hull have got off to an okay start in the Championship, shame about losing to Wolves on Saturday though – and of course it had to be Wolves, Richard’s Dad’s team :-( . I’m glad I only had a couple of quid riding on it!

We looked at the league tables on Vodafone Live at 5pm, and the tables hadn’t been updated. So we didn’t know until the BBC told us that Hull have been promoted into the Championship. I had to pause TiVo and rewind to make sure I’d heard right!

Using the tried and trusted maths of “messing with the equations until it looks right” we predict Hull to be top of the Prem by 2017. But more pressingly, we need Brighton to stay up so we can go watch Hull play them next year.

Two promotions in two years. All together now: “One more! We only want one more….”

We spent Easter weekend in Hull visiting my parents, and managed to fit in quite a lot – a Hull City match (we won!), some touristy stuff as well as setting Dad up with a new PC. As usual I took heaps of photos, so I’ll get around to processing them sometime soon.

Update: The photos are now up here.

Someone posted a link to Googlism for Hull City on the Tigerchat mailing list. This shows amongst other things that hull city is a football club for people with taste. So, there you go… definitive proof!

Well, according to the official web site Hull City have got a new manager. Brian Little left quite some time ago, and now Jan Molby has joined us (after resigning from Kidderminster Harriers a few days ago). He had been rumoured to be joining us for at least the last two weeks. Still, at least it has been resolved.

So, again, Hull City find themselves in the news – this time because Brian Little has “parted company” with the club, taking his assistants with him. According to the BBC News story Billy Russell will be the caretaker manager until a permanent replacement can be found. Read the full statement on the Official Hull City website.

We went to the football on Saturday afternoon at Boothferry Park, Hull to see the Hull City vs Halifax game. It’s about 8 months since we were last at Boothferry Park for a game and it was really good to see the place so full – approximately 9,500 people. It was a typical 3rd division game really, not much elegance but quite a good game none the less. Helped, no doubt, by the fact we won 3 – 0.

Here are a few photos I took of the game.

From the official web site (reproduced in full as there is no archive of old Hull City stories):

“Last season may have ultimately ended in disappointment, but manager Brian Little and his players will still have some silverware to show for their incredible efforts.
The club have been awarded the 2000/01 PFA Sir Bobby Moore Fair Play Award, which is given to the team with the best on-field disciplinary record during the course of the campaign. The fact that Brian and his team have won the award ahead of all the other Nationwide League and Premiership clubs is a big tribute within itself.
PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor will present the trophy at Boothferry Park prior to a game next season.”

Well done Hull. It might not be promotion, but at least it’s something!

So, we lost 2-1 on aggregate. I wish I could say we were hard done too but, in all honesty I can’t. We played poorly in the first half – we seemed to be playing far too defensively. We looked a lot better in the second half and created a couple of good chances. Orient were the better team but I think they are going to be hard pushed to beat Blackpool in the final at Cardiff.

The atmosphere wasn’t as good as I’d hoped – we were on the terraces and had no roof to help magnify our sound. Shame. I have little voice left so I know I did my bit. The Orient only seemed to have one song “Orient, Orient” – a bit like the Skol lager song. At least we had some variety to offer – including singing “One song, you’ve only got one song”.

It’s dissapointing to lose out but when I think back to how close we were to losing the club completely I don’t feel quite so bad. Next season let’s do it properly and get automatic promotion.

And so, instead of heading for Cardiff on the 26th, it looks like we’ll be on shed building duty – helping Rich’s Dad. Somehow this doesn’t have quite the same appeal.
